Affordable
Our low-cost face-to-face counselling service uses a sliding scale based on income and individual circumstances.
Individual sessions are $40 (concessions available) or $50 for couples. Generally, a series of 8 to 10 sessions is most helpful, but this will vary with individual circumstances.

What is the difference between a Psychologist and a Personal Counsellor?
There is a lot of overlap between psychological counselling and personal counselling. Using a trauma informed lens, psychologists and counsellors operate from a person-centred, evidence-based approach. They both rely on a strong therapeutic relationship and aim to improve emotional wellbeing, coping and quality of life.
Please note: As Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney’s psychology and personal counselling services are bulk billed or low-cost, we cannot provide formal reports for our clients.
To see a psychologist in our service, you will need a Referral letter/Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or a letter from your psychiatrist. Psychologists use evidence-based therapies, in a prescribed number of Medicare sessions, to address the specific diagnosis and the issues arising.
Seeing a psychologist is particularly helpful when someone is experiencing moderate to severe mental health symptoms that significantly impact daily functioning.
Psychologists complete a minimum of six years of study and training and must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA).
No GP referral is necessary to attend Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury’s personal counselling service. Like psychologists, counsellors also use evidence-based approaches. Counselling is well suited for people seeking support, self-understanding, resilience, and emotional wellbeing, even when they do not meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis. There is a low-cost fee for our personal counselling service, which can be waived if there is financial hardship.
All counsellors in our service are registered with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). They must complete a minimum of a Bachelor degree qualification in counselling to achieve registration with PACFA.
