Condensed Course for Telephone Crisis Support training

We are offering a condensed telephone crisis supporter training at our centre in Gordon, starting June 2024. This course is for 3rd or 4th year counselling, social work, mental health or psychology students, graduates and other individuals who are looking for experience.

Successful completion of the Stage 1 training course and Stage 2 supervised shifts may lead on to an opportunity for paid, overnight work as a Telephone Crisis Supporter on the 13 11 14 phone service.  


As a paid Crisis Supporter, you will need to commit to a minimum of one paid overnight shift per week, 11.00pm to 6.00am or midnight to 6.00am, predominately week nights for a minimum of 12 months. 

We will provide you with:

  • A nationally recognised 5-week condensed Telephone Crisis Support training course including 30 hours of online e-Learning 

  • Once you have passed the 5-week training and completed your supervised shifts, you will have the opportunity of paid shifts at SCHADS award rates. You will also be able to achieve accreditation as a Crisis Supporter within 5 months 

  • Ongoing weekly paid shifts as an accredited Crisis Supporter, gaining a minimum of 12 months experience dealing with a multitude of presentations, including mental health, loneliness, suicidality, self-harm, relationships, domestic violence, loss and grief etc

  • A formal reference/report at the end of 12 months stating your experience with Lifeline

  • RTO Statement of Attainment for the qualification CHCSS00113 Crisis Support Skill Set in three Units of Competency 

  • Full support including group and direct supervision, coaching sessions and professional development  

  • ‘Fit to Work’ Criminal Record check.
